About the Festival
CAN – Circus Fest brings an event filled with attractions to Florianópolis in the first week of October. Experiences, classes, workshops, open shows and lectures are part of the event programming, which aims to open the gates to contemporary circus to a diverse range of audiences: students, artists, instructors, coaches, enthusiasts and the curious.
CAN was selected by Programa Pontes, brought forth by Oi Futuro and the British Council, to promote the exchange between Brazilian and British artists and companies. As such, part of the festival fosters knowledge exchange between Brazilian artists, National Centre for Circus Arts (London) professionals and Aerial Edge (Glasgow), among other artists and guests from several locations in Brazil and abroad.
This phase of the festival takes place at Jurerê Sports Center, a sports and cultural center where Circocan is based in Florianópolis. The site, at the heart of Jurerê Internacional — one of the most famous beaches in Brazil — is managed by Olympic Champion Paulo Jukoski (Paulão), and for the past few years has been a meeting place for internationally recognized athletes and artists.
